The Be You Campaign

Oscar Wilde once said, “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.”

Afropolitan’s Be You Campaign, launched in Liberia, utilizes African prints in fashion as a way to challenge African stereotypes and educate consumers about the positive face of Afropolitans living on and off the continent.

Generally, Liberians, much like other Africans, are described one dimensionally – relegated to the stereotypical space of poverty, disease, civil conflict, corruption, and aid dependence. Contrary to the perception, there is so much more to Liberia, its citizens and its residents.Afropolitan’s Be You Campaign utilizes the individual styles of its eclectic client base as a way to express this human depth and authenticity.

Our dream was not only a celebration of fashion, but to also raise awareness about the awesome passion projects being undertaken by some of our favorite Afropolitans as they give back to the world.

We ask you to help empower them – participate and join their movement.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is said to be the fastest growing neurobiological condition in the world. In Africa, although there is growing awareness about autism and the need for treatment facilities, family members and communities often stigmatize those who suffer from the disorder. Mrs. Barnes is the mother of an autistic son. Through the Autism Society of Liberia she helps provide support to individuals dealing with autism or related conditions.
